I received a message from Google in which they warn that due to war in Ukraine they will pause monetization of content that dismisses, exploits, or condones the war.
Here is the complete message so see yourself:
As you see in the last paragraph they write: “This includes, but is not limited to, claims that imply victims are responsible for their own tragedy or similar instances of victim blaming, such as claims that Ukraine is committing genocide or deliberately attacking its own citizens.”
I guess one could easily agree with the biggest part of this sentence. What worries me is the part which I set in bold, i.e., “not limited to”.
One must ask oneself, what else (related to the Ukraine war) will they include in this “pause of monetization”? Equally important is the question: Who is going to decide about the “paused content”?
What do you think, do they have a team of experts who are well-informed about the situation so that they can decide in an unbiased way and pause such a content? In some of my previous texts you can see what real experts say about the true reasons for the war in Ukraine. Clearly, this will not be so.
In my recent text, I discussed a similar message from Pinterest. In that case it was about climate-related mis/disinformation. They are going to “regulate” the matter.
Where the heck is this world going?
